IDR (Intermediate Data Rate) system provides digital voice and data communication at various speeds (from 64 Kbps to 8448 Kbps) adjustable by software without any hardware modifications. TDS (Turksat Digital Service) system provides data and audio communications via Turksat satellites. Turksat’s main objective is to meet the increasing communication demands of its customers nationwide in a reliable and economic way. Since it is difficult to serve data and voice communications through cable or radio-link in regions under severe climate or geographical limitations, TDS systems are used in such areas in Turkey. In case of temporary trunk connection requirements, mobile earth stations can provide the TDS circuits (e.g. in sport activities and natural disasters etc.) For telephone and data communications, IDR and IBS systems have the advantages of digital transmission over analog transmission techniques in: • Flexibility of digital systems • Convenience in maintenance • Increased quality and performance at point-to-point • Digital transparency in satellite and terrestrial links • The possibility of mutual reception from different receivers • Uniform transmission quality and cost, unconstrained by distance • High resistance to disasters IBS (Intelsat Business Service) has been designed for constant and uninterruptible data transfer speeds either for digital data or for voice communications. IBS satellite systems are not affected by geographical limitations, and are easy to operate and maintain, serving inaccessible areas or for other countries that depend on a modest number of channels not accessible by conventional means. |
