Turksat A.S. is in Van Earthquake Zone To Help

After a disastrous earthquake hitting the southeast of Turkey (city of Van) on October 23rd 2011, Turksat immediately constituted a Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Center getting in touch with the Disaster and Emergency Management Department of the Prime Ministry.

The operations began early yesterday in order to meet the urgent communication needs for the earthquake epicenter deprived of terrestrial infrastructure, and to ship all the equipment providing TV broadcasting via Turksat satellites.

As part of the correspondence with the Crisis Desk of the Disaster and Emergency Management Department of Turkish Prime Ministry, two motorized TurksatVSAT flyaway systems (very small satellite terminals) were transported to Esenboga Airport in Ankara to be delivered to the region by air cargo. Uninterruptible communication services were supplied in Ercis, Van on the October 24th at 03:00 a.m. by Turksat.

In addition, a mobile communication terminal and two mobile broadcasting vehicles were sent to Van on the October 23rd. All vehicles reported to be arrived Van on October 24th at 16:00 p.m. and joined the operations with the crisis desk officials.

As Turksat, we would like to send our deepest condolences to the families who lost their relatives during the earthquake and hope all wounded make a swift and speedy recovery as well.
