Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the total number of TV channels broadcasting via Türksat satellites has reached 532, breaking the record of the last decade. He also stated that the number of foreign-based channels has increased by 50 percent over the past five years, rising to 171. Uraloğlu said, “With the technological superiority and capacity increase provided by Türksat 6A, we have reached a historic peak in broadcasting. In just the past year alone, we achieved a 20 percent increase in our channel count, transforming Türkiye into a global broadcasting hub.” Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that with the commissioning of Türkiye’s domestically developed and nationally produced communications satellite Türksat 6A—one of the country’s most strategic moves in space—Türksat, now operating six active satellites, has become a global broadcasting giant. He underlined that Türksat satellites now serve a population of 5.5 billion people across more than 110 countries.
“With Türksat 6A, we have extended our coverage area to the most remote corners of the world. We have combined our sovereignty in our ‘space homeland’ with our capability to export technology. Today, Türksat is not merely a satellite operator but a trusted and preferred technology brand internationally,” he said.
-“A 50 Percent Increase in Foreign Channels”
Minister Uraloğlu noted that Türksat’s international credibility is reflected in the rise in foreign channel numbers: “By the end of 2020, we had 114 foreign-origin channels. Over the past five years, this number has increased by 50 percent to 171. This demonstrates the historic momentum Türkiye has achieved in satellite service exports. From Europe to Central Asia, from the Middle East to Africa and deep into South Asia, the world’s voice is now carried via Türksat. Türksat satellites are no longer merely a regional player; they have become a platform that shapes the global broadcasting arena.”
-“With Türksat 6A, We Expanded Our Coverage Area to Include South Asia”
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the new coverage areas provided by Türksat 6A have each turned into success stories, emphasizing that a new chapter has been opened in South Asia with Türksat 6A. Highlighting that Türksat rapidly signed significant agreements in the region following 6A’s commissioning, Uraloğlu said: “Under the contract signed with a Dubai-based company, we began providing direct commercial services via Türksat 6A for the first time. Subsequently, we incorporated 50 channels of Sri Lanka’s leading platform, Freesat Lanka, into our system. These projects are outcomes of our technology diplomacy, generating high value-added foreign currency inflows for our country. Türksat 6A, our domestically produced asset, has proven to be an invaluable national investment—repaying its cost multiple times over through technology and service exports.”.
-Record 20 Percent Growth in One Year
Minister Uraloğlu noted that Türksat has achieved record-breaking annual growth in broadcasting: “Our channel count, which stood at 431 in 2020, has reached 532 as of the end of 2025. Particularly in the past year, capacity increased from 445 to 532, marking a 20 percent leap. This represents the highest annual growth rate in Türksat’s broadcasting history. With its advanced technology and uninterrupted service quality, Türksat satellites will continue to be the most reliable harbor for global broadcasters. Türkiye is steadily advancing its vision of becoming a pioneer of the space age in transportation and communications.”.
