Tahsin Özsoy, the father of Ahmet Özsoy, who was martyred while trying to resist the coup plotters, who occupied Türksat Gölbaşı Campus during the coup attempt by Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) on 15 July said: “I am happy to have raised a child who has reached martyrdom. Our ancestor say, ‘Die a martyr, live as a veteran.’ Martyrdom is the highest order for us.”

Özsoy (49), who was married with two children, became a martyr along with his colleagues while trying to resist the coup plotters who were trying to seize Türksat during the failed coup attempt on 15 July. The coup plotters, who planned to cut off the broadcasts of television channels broadcasting through Türksat communication satellites, could not reach their goals due to the heroism displayed by Özsoy and his colleagues.

Father Özsoy noted that his son became a martyr because he risked his life and did not given into the coup plotters. Özsoy, who expressed his happiness and pride because his son was a martyr, said:
“I am happy to have raised a child who has reached martyrdom. Our ancestor say, ‘Die a martyr, live as a veteran.’ Martyrdom is the highest order for us. Despite how much we hurt, we have a title; I am the father of a martyr, thank God. It is comforting that our son became a martyr for this homeland, but of course the pain does not go away.”

“If we can’t give our lives for this land, then this land can’t be our homeland”

Özsoy continued to emphasize that the concept, homeland is very important for him and that his son was also raised with this ideology:
“If we can’t give our lives for this land, then this land can’t be our homeland. You have to die for it in order for it to be considered your homeland. Despite the number of martyrs we gave we are thankful, that night God helped us, we rode out the storm. With the help of Allah on the night of 15 July, people with no weapons suppressed the people who had weapons in their possession.”

Özsoy pointed out that his son became a martyr for his homeland without even thinking for a moment about it. He said:

“Ahmet was fair and honest since he was a little boy, and never fell off track. That night he probably said, ‘If I submit here, Turkey will be gone, then what will become of my humanity? Even if I die, I will not give you this place’s password.’ He did so, and eventually he became a martyr. I can not say anything, thank God, he became a martyr.”

Özsoy also stated that he trusted the states fight against FETÖ, he said:

“I think this job has dragged on for too long, but its because there are so many not just one or two. Iron can only be beaten when hot. Allah says ‘an eye for an eye.’ If I cut a person's arm, they need to cut off my arm. Yes, it has dragged on but we are waiting with hope, I hope the end will be good. We trust our state. May God, bless our state. The state says, ‘They will be punished for this’ and we trust our state.”
